Import & export
Sometimes it’s easier to work on routes outside the editor — or you want a backup before a big change. Import and export are for that.
Exporting a route
On the Routes list, open the menu on any route and choose:
| Format | Best for |
|---|---|
| JSON | Full backup — all text, stops, messages, settings (including showGpx) |
| CSV | Spreadsheet work — handy for editing many stops in Excel |
- GPX | The map route only — only available when the route has Show route on map enabled; use in other mapping tools |
Keep JSON exports as backups before major edits.
Importing a new route (JSON)
From the Routes list:
- Click Import JSON
- Choose your file
- Wait for the import to finish
- You’ll land in the editor to review and tweak
Tip: Download the JSON template from the routes page first if you’re building content in another tool or with an agency.
Updating an existing route (JSON)
Inside the editor for a saved route:
- Open the import section
- Choose your file
- Decide whether to replace all stops or merge with what’s there
- Review everything carefully — especially photos and audio links
CSV import
For large projects with many stops, CSV bulk import is available from the routes list. Download the CSV template to see the expected columns.
GPX files
Only relevant when Show route on map (GPX) is enabled on the route.
- Upload on the GPX & Map tab — brings in the route line only
- Export GPX — take the route out to another tool
- Import waypoints from GPX — if your file has named points, pull them in as stops
Things to watch out for
- Photos and audio in imported files may point to old web addresses — re-upload if they don’t play
- Always review after import; automated imports rarely need zero edits
- City, country, and languages — confirm they’re correct before publishing
