GPX & Map

This tab is always available. When Show route on map (GPX) is enabled on Details (the default), your route becomes a line on the map. When it is off, upload GPX here to import stops only — the track is not shown to visitors.

Waypoint-only routes

With Show route on map off, visitors see stops but no route line. Upload a GPX with named <wpt> points to import stops; tracks in the file are ignored for visitors.

Why the map line matters

Visitors see a track on screen and hear stops as they move along it. If the line cuts through buildings or the wrong street, they’ll get lost — and hear the off-track message more than your carefully written stories.

Getting a path onto the map

You have three options:

1. Upload a GPX file

Already have a route from Google Maps, Komoot, Strava, or a GIS tool? Export it as GPX and upload it here.

Ravelun reads the file and draws the line. Distance and duration may update automatically on the Details tab.

2. Generate from your stops

If you’ve placed at least two stops and saved the route:

  1. Click Generate from waypoints
  2. Ravelun connects your stops with a sensible path for walking, biking, or driving (matching your route type on Details)

Good for most tourist walks built stop-by-stop in the editor.

3. Place stops on the map

Click the map to add stops; drag pins to fine-tune. Generate the path afterwards to connect them.

Select a stopOpens it in the Waypoints tab for editing

Use zoom — street-level accuracy matters in old town centres.

Distance & duration

When you upload or generate a path, Ravelun can fill in distance (km) and duration (minutes) on the Details tab for you.

If you’ve typed those numbers in yourself, the system won’t overwrite them — useful when you know the walk takes longer than the raw map distance suggests (photo stops, steep hills, crowds).

Close route loop (circle)

When Show route on map is on, tick Close route loop (circle) on the Details tab if the route returns to the start. When the path is generated or regenerated, the last stop is connected back to the first.

Preview

When you have a path and stops, a preview shows roughly what visitors will see. Use it as a sanity check before publishing.
